Could Clubhouse become the new Twitter for Elon Musk? Or is it just a temporary hype? Read on

Even though it’s an iOS-only app, Clubhouse has been downloaded by more than 8 million worldwide.

Clubhouse doubled its download count by February 2021, with approximately 2.6 million downloads in the United States alone. This information is from App tracker, Annie.

Sounds crazy, right? But how did it happen? Well, thanks to Elon Musk, the famous founder of SpaceX and Tesla, for surprisingly joining the app.

Musk Hops in The Good Time Show

Musk appeared on a late-night event, The Good Time Show, taking place in a Clubhouse room.

The show is hosted by the husband-and-wife tandem Aarthi Ramamurthy and Sriram Krishnan.

The Good Time Show usually invites Andreessen Horowitz partners, Clubhouse investors, as their guest and co-host.

Musk initially talked about living on Mars and how challenging it could be for the pioneers at first. Eventually, he said, that would be a rewarding initiative for the future of mankind.

The conversation also shifted around his fascination with memes, and he even quoted, “I love memes, they can be very insightful.”

“He who controls the memes controls the universe,” Musk added.

He also talked about his other company, Neuralink, and mentioned that Tesla has a world-leading AI team.

Musk also promised that Neuralink will be releasing a video about monkeys playing with their minds, bringing excitement to Clubbers.

Further, he discussed topics concerning Bitcoin, Covid-19 vaccines, electric cars, and self-driving cars.

But what triggered extra enthusiasm is when Musk turned from interviewee to interviewer, roasting Vladimir Tenev, Robinhood CEO, about the sudden limitations in buying GameStop and other volatile stocks within the Robinhood platform.

Musk has been skeptical about Robinhood’s moves in stopping the users from buying GameStop stocks.

“Everyone wants to know, did something shady go down here?” he asked Tenev.

Tenev defended that regulators had required the company to increase their deposit to cope with market volatility risk.

The conversation ended as Musk allegedly criticized the response of Robinhood in handling the complaints of outraged investors.

Full Capacity

As Elon Musk continued to entertain questions regarding various topics, it’s no surprise that the Clubhouse room kept growing in number.

And despite starting the show at 1 am, the room quickly burst in, reaching its 5,000 maximum capacity of concurrent listeners.

Because of hitting the full cap mark, an overflow room was created, and another overflow after.

As a matter of fact, the appearance of Musk to Clubhouse social networking app has suddenly become a trending topic, where technology enthusiasts and hucksters continue to get in action, joining pre-show conversations and post-show recaps.

Conclusion

Though many users still have issues regarding Clubhouse inattention to moderation, it’s safe to say that many are already hooked on listening to thirty-to-forty-minute conversations about topics they love.

Many acknowledged that spending their time listening to podcast-like conversations within the app is the most worthwhile thing that they have done during the quarantine.

Whether Elon Musk’s usage of Clubhouse will become part of his social media activity, as with Twitter, or if he will simply attend to interview requests, one thing is noticeable: Something is enticing about Clubhouse that makes it compelling. Even to the world’s richest person.

So, if you haven’t maximized the usage of your Clubhouse account, do it today.

And if you’re still on the waiting list or waiting to be invited by your perks, fret not. Here are some Clubhouse alternative apps you can try out right away.
